Barrie is a city in Southern Ontario, Canada. With a (census metropolitan area) population of over 197,059 people it is the 21st largest (2016) and one of the fastest growing census metropolitan areas in the country. Home to the Georgian College and with a fast growing South East Asian population, Cricket, being the second most widely played sport in the world, has gained a recent recognition in a city with over 37% residents of English ethnic origin.

Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of 11 players on an oval-shaped field, at the center of which is a rectangular 22-yard long pitch. One team bats, trying to score as many runs as possible while the other team bowls and fields, trying to dismiss the batsmen and thus limit the runs scored by the batting team. A run is scored by the striking batsman hitting the ball with his bat, running to the opposite end of the pitch and touching the crease there without being dismissed. The teams switch between batting and fielding at the end of an innings.

With a vision to make every Canadian fall in love with the sport, a group of, young minds started knocking the doors of every individual that every wanted to know or play the game. After 500 hundred signatures and a collection of support letters from MP Patrick Brown, Liberal candidate Colin Wilson and other local supporters Cricketers now call Barrie Cricket League, their destination for cricket in Barrie.
